Reddit user Killuminati001 recently posted a comparison video showing off various knife animations from previous Battlefield titles compared to the one used in Battlefield 2042. Although it is nearly identical to the previous knife animations, the new one is unique in one way. Unlike the smooth transitions of the old titles’ knife animation which portray a soldier grabbing another one, turning them around, and knifing them in the chest, the Battlefield 2042 animation is significantly faster.

Knifing enemies in most Battlefield titles will show a brief animation of your soldier claiming the enemy’s dog tags, but this detail is largely missing in Battlefield 2042’s knifing animation. One Battlefield 2042 animation in Killuminati001’s compilation video shows a soldier knifing another soldier who is visibly too far away to connect with. Some other animations show similar actions to the classic Battlefield titles but in an awkward way where one soldier is putting another in a headlock before stabbing their chest.
Not all of Killuminati001’s knife kills properly connect in their compilation video, with some soldiers being stabbed repeatedly until succumbing to their wounds. These intense 1v1 Battlefield 2042 encounters show the soldier slashing and stabbing at an enemy who may have otherwise been unaware of their presence until after the knife animation played out. Typically Battlefield players can sneak up on enemies before unsheathing their knives and taking them out silently, but a Battlefield 2042 bug was seemingly preventing the instant kill.
Several open beta players noticed clipping among the Battlefield 2042 bugs being reported and it looks like Killuminati001 experienced this visual glitch in their gameplay. Two clips in the knifing animation compilation show his soldier clipping through the enemy slightly before shaking as the knife is plunged into the enemy soldier. Although these kills aren’t as smooth as they would be in earlier Battlefield titles, Killuminati001 was still triumphant in gaining more points for their team.
Although Battlefield 2042 currently has a knifing animation that shares many similarities with previous titles, EA may add new animations to the game as it grows as a live service. The strictly multiplayer Battlefield is expected to have microtransactions of some sort, and several Battlefield fans are already anticipating more interesting assassination animations. It’s likely that the Specialists shown off in the Battlefield 2042 open beta will also receive skins in the future.
Battlefield 2042 releases for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
