However, it is less of a language and more of a code as letters are replaced with other letters that players can decipher.

This has been not only written in Japanese but also in English to allow more players to understand and decipher it. Although it may be simple for the player to decipher in-game it is suggested to be a much more complex language as characters require books just to decipher one letter.

9 The Legend Of Zelda – Hylian

Similar to Al Bhed, Hylian is rarely heard spoken by the characters in The Legend of Zelda and is instead found across different scriptures and monuments throughout the franchise. It is another language that players have deciphered so that they can also understand the lore further.

Another interesting aspect of Hylian is how it has evolved across games similar to how actual languages have in history. The language builds off of its old words, some sounding similar while others have transformed into new letters making each game an intriguing and almost educational journey.

8 Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons – Language Inspiration

In this emotional adventure of two brothers language is one thing that players are less likely to notice. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons doesn’t play out in English but instead uses a made-up language that takes heavy inspiration from the game director’s Lebanese heritage though this doesn’t ruin the emotion of this narrative.

Even if the player doesn’t understand what the brothers are saying there is enough powerful emotion between the two of them as well as the dramatic gestures of the brothers that help tell this influential story.

7 Dragon Age – Qunari And Elven

4 Starcraft – Khalani

An interesting language that to the common ear sounds like meaningless sounds, it’s the telepathic communication used by Khalai and Nerazim in Starcraft. Although they commonly converse through telepathy, Khalani can also be written as a glyph-based language though this is something that other species may still not understand.

There is also an even older version of Khalani that some Khalai speak. Other species would commonly translate this as Latin. Players can learn more about this language in Starcraft 2 where players can see key phrases and common sayings that are used in their Data Module.

1 The Sims – Simlish

By far one of the most popular languages to ever be made in gaming history. Simlish has gone well beyond what many other made-up languages have done by getting artists to make Simlish covers of their songs to better fit into the Sim’s world.

Gibberish can surprisingly pack a lot of personality when it comes to controlling these little people’s lives as players watch their sims interact with others having fully-fledged conversations in a tongue they don’t quite understand. That hasn’t stopped many from mimicking the greeting though.
