Garfield was in the audience at the 94th Academy Awards when Smith abruptly took to the stage at the Dolby Theater and struck Rock across the face after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Smith later took to the stage to receive the Best Actor award for his performance in King Richard, where he made a tearful apology to the academy and his fellow nominees.
Since then he has also apologized to Rock on social media, while the Academy has launched an investigation into the incident amid discussion over whether Smith should be made to hand back his award.
Garfield was one of four other actors nominated alongside Smith for the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Tick, Tick… Boom!
In the aftermath of the incident, several fans on social media picked up on pictures appearing to show Garfield checking his phone in the wake of the slap. The image was one of several to go viral.
Now the Amazing Spider-Man actor is back at it again, after a video appearing to show him discussing the slap outside the Dolby Theater was posted to Twitter. It can be watched here.
The clip, which was shared by the account SpideyLifeOnline, has garnered 1.7 million views. It was originally posted to YouTube by the entertainment website UnCrazed.
In the clip, Garfield can be speaking to a group of three women. Some fans have speculated that the women are Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim, of the band Haim, who were in attendance at the Oscars, but this has not been confirmed.
Garfield appears shocked and confused as he speaks to the trio and at one point slaps one hand with the other multiple times.
Though he could have been speaking about something else entirely, fans were quick to flock to the video and comment on Garfield’s apparent reaction to the night’s events.
DayKimbers123 wrote: “I think you’ll find everyone would react to that slap like Andrew has, kinda shocked and gobsmacked.”
Nililprincess commented: “Andrew is me as a kid after I see a movie and try to recreate the iconic scene” while PRONGSwife said: “honestly I would do the same if I had seen it first hand.”
Aquamarinecy quipped: “He seemed to like enjoy the show” with BurrBands adding: “This makes me like Andrew 10x more.” 5impleSteph, meanwhile, joked: “He’s waiting for Will’s award to be taken back.”
The video came to light just hours after footage offering a closer look at Jada Pinkett-Smith’s reaction to the slap went viral on TikTok. Another video showing more of Rock’s stunned reaction has also gained traction on social media.
